Goals and Perseverance

Ambition drives us forward.

Our aspirations push us even through the toughest times. Goals focus our thoughts through dark hours filled with betrayal, criticism, and hefty losses.

Creating a checklist of your personal goals is simple.

Ask yourself what you would like to accomplish and jot it down. Type up a Word Document, scribble on a loose piece of paper, or write on the back of a dinner napkin – the platform is irrelevant. What matters is that you have taken that first step. Your goals have changed from jumbled thoughts to a tangible list.

The pathway for the one aspiring to better him/herself can be unsettling.

Facing your fears and working towards a new goal is a difficult feat, even for the most stubborn of people. But perseverance is key. With that quality taken to heart, you will reach your goals. The end results will amaze you, and will sober your disheartening thoughts.

My personal goals vary in theme. Yet each – once achieved – will significantly influence my life. This list may not be comprehensive, but it does illustrate my most pressing goals.

My Goals – You CAN Do It!
Writing:
  • Create a personal freelance writing business. Primary Goal – Help businesses and entrepreneurs better their image in the consumer eye. How? Through effective, promotional content writing.
  • Write a book. Someday, I just might. I will start small by publishing short stories and articles in the meantime.
  • Find my niche, in both writing and other professional endeavors.
  • Make this website grow into a daily/weekly ‘must-read.”
Health:
  • Build up the stamina to run a 5k! Preferably sooner rather than later.
  • Permanently change my eating habits for the better. Quit maintaining only the easy dietary changes.
  • Continue making healthy choices in life and encourage others to do the same.
Family:
  • Maintain a loving relationship with my husband.
  • Spend more quality time with family.

Here’s the rub – life does not, and will not, provide handouts. Not even to the most hardworking person. But with the right mindset you can accomplish wonders.

Here are some tips to get you started:

– Motivate yourself to accomplish your set goals. You are worth it!

Fixate on something that truly motivates you.

Are you aspiring to lose weight in a healthy manner? If so, make a photo collage. Include pictures of people already at your goal weight, cut-outs of clothes you will better fit into, and foods that will help you reach your ultimate goal.

Hang the collage near your workout space if possible. Or, take a picture of the collage and glance at it during your workout of choice.

– Persevere through the hardships. Your hard work will pay off in the end.

Obstacles are placed in our way for a reason. By overcoming these difficulties we build character.

So persevere through those seemingly harsh complications. In turn, you will face future hardships with a keen, understanding eye.

– Don’t wallow in self-pity. You’re better than that.

Why mope around about your coworker’s promotion?

Don’t let the rejection bother you. Though you likely pined for weeks over that open position, don’t stress over it.

Change your attitude. Think positively and achieve something great, instead.

– Learn from your failures, rejections, and downfalls.

 The job market is competitive.

You will not be given a job simply with a degree under your belt. Achieving your goals takes more than that.

Yes, you worked hard through college to get that degree. But the real world is so much more challenging to work with. Though you may have CEO material, you will likely start at the bottom with an entry-level position.

Don’t let this dampen your spirits. Your goals are worth all the effort you put into them.

Make some time for yourself. Create a list of your goals.

Share your list, if you like. I’d love to see what you all are working towards!
